Kailin Yong
Violinist, teacher and
composer Kailin (pronounced Ky-Lynn) Yong, a native of Singapore, won first prize in the
National Music Competition for Young Artists around age 13, toured the world with the Asian Youth
Orchestra, and then went on to complete his studies in classical violin
performance and chamber music at the Vienna Academy of Music. He came to the USA in 1999 to
help found the Aerith String Quartet, performing extensively in the USA
and Asia. Kailin eventually settled in Colorado where he founded the Strings of Tao and co-founded the award-winning Boulder Acoustic Society (a modern string band). He has also played with Beco Do Choro (Brazilian music) and Saltanah (Middle Eastern).
In 2004 Yong was
awarded the Daniel Pearl Memorial Violin at the Mark O’Connor Strings Conference. He has integrated his music with various musical
styles including classical, modern dance, theater and film. His composition "Does it Really Matter?" with the Boulder
Acoustic Society won the Seventh Annual Independent Music Awards in the "Americana Song" category. Most recently, Kailin received the 2009-2010 Artist
in Residence Award for the city of Boulder. Yong has numerous CD's one of the most recent being Bowing with the
Flow. which consists of all original tunes inspired by his exploration of
different world cultures.
Yong is highly respected for his teaching, and specifically for his
ability to help others learn the art of improvisation. He is one of the 2009-2010 music teachers of the Denver Young Artists Orchestra. Kailin’s
heart lies in his dedication to making peace through music. He believes
that music has the power to reach across boundaries, spreading joy and
understanding like nothing else can. Because of this enchanting power of
music, Kailin says that music can help bring peace, friendship and
understanding into the world and has dedicated his music to promote
